BC Hydro Awards YesBC Community Champion Award
YesBC has received its second Community Champion Award from BC Hydro, after being nominated by Belmont Secondary School in Langford, BC. The BC Hydro Community Champion Program is a student program that encourages grade 4 to 12 classes around British Columbia to nominate an environmental organization that is making a difference in their local community.
The winning nominee receives a donation of up to $1,000. To be eligible, organizations must be a not-for-profit group that supports sustainability, conservation, or education on environmental issues in B.C. Preference is given to initiatives that assist young people in understanding and participating in environment activities in local communities.
YesBC has worked with Belmont Leadership students throughout the school year, providing environmental stewardship support. Belmont was the host school for the Youth Climate Action Summit and Off the Grid Festival held in Langford in April 2011.
